The author is a mature, retired police officer who has had a lot of life experience. He is a people-person, and a devoted family man, though sadly divorced. Having experienced or witnessed at first hand the pain and lessons of some of life’s worst vicissitudes, he writes in a heart-felt, insightful way about matters which impact people emotionally. He enjoys the simple things in life, such as family and creative hobbies such DIY, gardening, and playing the piano. He has discovered his penchant for writing, and this is now his fifth novel.
A futuristic, dystopian novel that charts the absolute division of modern society, as the majority of the population dutifully and readily accept the new medical-digital dictatorship in exchange for peace-of-mind and alleged safety. A hardcore, significant minority refuse to bow the knee to chemical tyranny and totalitarianism. As a result, the majority are medically protected from the untreated vulnerable minority by a geographical division of society, policed not by concrete walls and barbed wire, but by lethal drones. The majority are controlled and protected in their ultra-safe, utilitarian, futuristic, world, complete with artificial food, driverless electric taxis, permanent social distancing, and little need to work. The renegades in the excluded world are left to fend for themselves, to build new communities in the abandoned wild lands, living hand-to-mouth, without electricity or any mod-cons, but they are free.
The consequences for the two communities unfold through the story, piece by piece, are not what you would expect!
Four prison inmates are thrown randomly together during recreation time, to play scrabble, with the added zing of occasionally telling stories about a word on the board. The stories reveal their characters and histories, but the scrabble itself is a mere transient remission from the vagaries and harshness of prison life, which continues unabated around them and through them.
We are party to a voyage through calm settled waters of support, camaraderie and story-telling, to storms of violence, abuse and abject despair in a rigid, alien and unforgiving environment. We feel the emotions of the highs and lows of prison life through the victimisation, determination and hope of our players, who ultimately all show resilience in one way or another.
It is a fable about humanity, garnered with wit, insight and encouragement, with a little whodunnit? thrown in for good measure.
Pablo is a hardworking, upstanding police officer, proud of his long marriage and lovely family. Through decades of quiet dedication and single-minded devotion he has achieved the successes one strives for in life, both with his family and career. Close to retirement and to sitting back and enjoying the fruits of a successful career and marriage, a malicious spurious complaint at work should have no material consequences on his life, but it starts a domino effect, and before long he finds himself shockingly dismissed, divorced, without a home, and with a criminal record. This story explores a convoluted tragic journey of divorce, rich with emotion, loss, betrayal, revenge and confusion. Along the way it explores the dynamics of what makes a relationship weak and vulnerable, or strong and resolute. It’s not a miserable story, but one of resilience, hope, and true love. It is told with an immense depth of feeling, insight, humour and faith, and there are many truly surprising twists and turns as the story unfolds.
Pablo (From Til Death We Do Part) is still fighting to come to terms with the excruciating loss of two wives, but in his ongoing frustration, he starts to resort to violence, something he has formerly eschewed his entire life. He is a strong and powerful man, and seems to be in control to start with, but even so, he is conflicted within himself and seeks the help of a psychologist to help him understand and control his urges. However, the law of unforeseen consequences visits him with devastating effect, and he soon finds his actions snowballing beyond anything he intended or could have imagined and before long, he shockingly finds own life in the balance. Can fate send him a surprise guardian angel to salvage him from himself and his own folly?
An Angel in Heaven decides to transition into a demon, because he can see that on Earth, the battle between good and evil is being won by evil, and he wants to be on the winning side. He abandons the security, comfort and bliss of Heaven and heads for Earth, the kingdom of the Devil himself, where he is mentored by a demon with thousands of years’ experience in deceiving and hurting people.
We get an inside look into his training as his ancient guide teaches him how best to influence people to bring about loss, illness, anguish, and destruction upon themselves. Devils can never overcome people’s free will, but they are nevertheless persistent in their never-ending efforts to subvert, undermine and wreak havoc through their deceitful and beguiling ways. Is this a true story?
Recovering from a devastating marital failure of years earlier, Pablo meets the supernal Hellion. She seems wonderful, and it is love at first sight, and they marry quickly. However, not all is rosy in the garden, and a lifetime’s baggage rears its ugly head. Pablo’s ex-wife re-establishes contact with him, and he desperately seeks to exorcise the demons of that betrayal and divorce, but he gets drawn into a double life. Then, one shocking day, Hellion goes to work, and inexplicably, and without warning, fails to return home. Now he has to try to understand another devastating, bewildering calamity.
Til Death We Do Part, Too is a story that scrutinises the impact of unfinished business, baggage, emotional damage, and lingering love. It balances heart-breaking loss with resilience, disorientation with hope, and desperation and bitterness with true enduring love and understanding. There is much insight into the reality of relationships and the frailty of the human psyche. It is told with immense depth of feeling, humour, and faith.
Gabriela, a product of the care system, is an independent and feisty young lady. She has a brief and innocent encounter with a complete stranger, during which she intuitively forms the opinion that this odd man is dangerous. She has absolutely no evidence, but she feels driven by her gut feeling to discover proof to substantiate her suspicions. This only serves to get her into trouble with the police for stalking, harassment, and theft. They treat her as a nuisance who suffers from delusions and, as far as possible, she is to be ignored and discouraged. However, her doggedness and determination drive her to persevere with her quest despite the opposition, only to succeed in putting her own life on the line. Can she be rescued? Or will she, in fact, become just one more hidden victim?
